As a result of the debt cancelation by the Paris club of Creditors, Nigeria made a commitment to allocate funds that would have been used to service debt to the implemetation of projects and programmes that will assist in the attainment of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) in the country. A sum of N100billion was allocated by the past administration to 10 MDG related MDAs which include: Agriculture, Water Ressources, Power and Steel, Works, Youth and Intergovernmental affairs, Housing and Environment, Education, Health, Women Affairs.
This project involves the monitoring and evaluation of the use of public funds across the 6 states (including federal capital territory) within the North central zone in Nigeria. In order to demonstrate quality results, the government of Nigeria through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the president on MDGs (OSSAP-MDGs) initiated and innovative process of bringing the organized Private Sector (OPS) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to partner as stakeholders in the fight for accountability and transparency.
